If you are registered for MTD for Income Tax, your first quarterly update covering the period from 6 April 2026 to 30 June 2026 is due soon. Preparing now will help you avoid last-minute stress and ensure your records are complete.
Who is affected?
MTD for Income Tax currently applies to many:
Sole traders
Landlords with UK property income
If your qualifying income meets the current MTD threshold and you are registered, you must keep digital records and submit quarterly updates to HMRC using compatible software.
What information should you prepare?
Before your quarterly update is submitted, make sure you have:
All sales or rental income recorded.
Business expenses entered accurately.
Bank transactions reconciled.
Digital copies of invoices and receipts where available.
Details of any business assets purchased during the quarter.
Mileage records, if claiming vehicle expenses.
Any other business income received during the period.
Deadline
Your first quarterly update covers:
6 April 2026 to 30 June 2026
The submission deadline is 7 August 2026.
Submitting early allows time to correct any errors before the deadline.
